1. Banjo Paterson (1864-1941)

Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson was an Australian bush poet, journalist, and author. He is best known for penning the famous ballad "Waltzing Matilda" and the poem "The Man from Snowy River." Born in Narambla, New South Wales, Paterson spent his early years in the neighbouring town of Upwey before moving to Sydney. His works are widely celebrated and have become icons of Australian literature.

2. Wurundjeri People

The Wurundjeri are the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which Upwey is situated. They are part of the Kulin nation, an indigenous Australian culture in the Melbourne region that includes various tribal groups. Today, the Wurundjeri people continue to uphold their rich cultural heritage and play an active role in promoting indigenous values and traditions.

3. Sir Lionel Lindsay (1874-1961)

5. Bill Johnston (born 1923)

Bill Johnston is a former Australian rules football player who played for Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Born and raised in Upwey, Johnston achieved significant success in his football career, representing Victoria in interstate matches and being an integral part of Melbourne's successful era in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
